There have been many poets throughout history. I have some poets that I am very fond of, and others not so much, but my favorite foreign poet is Dr. Maya Angelou.

Maya Angelou was born April 4, 1928, as Marguerite Ann Johnson in St. Louis, Missouri. She was raised in St. Louis Missouri and in Stamps, Arkansas by her grandmother. According MayaAngelou.com, at 14 Maya Angelou earned a dance scholarship to San Francisco's Labor School. She did not complete her high school education, however, but she worked as a waitress. She later went back to high school but became pregnant during her senior year. During the 1950s, Dr. Angelou toured Europe and appeared in the opera Porgy and Bess. In the late 1950s, Maya Angelou wrote and starred in Cabaret For Freedom.

During the 1960s, Maya Angelou was an advocate for civil rights, joining the Harlem Writer's Guild as well as moving to Ghana to become an editor of the African Review. Dr. Angelou is most noted for her autobiographical works, especially Why The Caged Bird Sings. Within Angelou's autobiographies, she depicts her early childhood traumas (at the age of eight she was molested), failures, and successes (source:Biography.com). Angelou has also written many volumes of poetry, such as Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Die and Complete Collected Poems of Maya Angelou.

Maya Angelou is one of my favorite poets and one of the many exceptional works that I enjoy the most is her poem Phenomenal Woman( उल्लेखनीय महिला ). My daughter translated it in Hindi and this is included in her book on Maya. This poem of   depicts a positive perception of how a woman feels and thinks of herself, detailing why it is great to be a woman and the reasons why she is appreciative of the woman has become.

There have been and will always be poets that have made a profound impact in the lives of their readers, however Dr. Maya Angelou, in my opinion, is one of the best inspirational Women   around today. This book of Maya in Hindi will made the Hindi readers able to peek into  the struggleful, successful and inspirational life of Dr. Maya Angelou..
