World Earth Day 2026

Millions of people around the world paused today, at least for a moment, to mark Earth Day. It’s an annual event founded by people who hoped to stir activism to clean up and preserve a planet that is now home to some 8 billion humans and assorted trillions of other organisms. This year’s Earth Day centers around the slogan “Our Power, Our Planet” and encourages collective action against environmental impacts. On this day, 1970
First Earth Day April 22nd, 1970: Peace activist John McConnell, US Senator Gaylord Nelson, and coordinator Denis Hayes create a day to honor and promote protection of the Earth and its ecosystems. Earth Day will gain in popularity, and grow to include observances in more than 192 countries. 99.99% of Indians will not know that today is "Earth Day" unless they are told. The same number will enjoy the benefits of living in a modern, wealthy, industrial society and will never think twice about how fortunate they are or how we got here. xoxo
