I've had a hard time smiling today, a video

I've had a hard time smiling today, so I decided to go through my drawer of photos to find old family photos. It worked. I smiled:

My mom had this photo taken sometime in the early 60's for my dad who was stationed somewhere in the Maharastra. My little and big brother came along a few years after this photo was taken. It would have been interesting to be part of this family in the photo -- having a younger, somewhat happier and less-stressed mom and getting to enjoy more time in Air Force area of Bangalore. I think it's probably the one place that BOTH my parents enjoyed.

What the photo triggered is something I needed to see and to know -- I'm giving myself some grace and relieving myself of some of my own absurd expectations. I'm acknowledging that change doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all. I remember when I figured this out years ago, in a different context, and it was such an epiphany -- to be OKAY with things the way they are and to find ways to thrive and be happy -- that is, just make the assumption that while the situation won't change, my attitude about it can.

A Hobby That Travelled With Me

A Memorable Stop at the Mustard Fields: Travelling with My Crochet Hobby

Crochet has never been just a pastime for me.

It has accompanied me through journeys, waiting rooms, family visits, quiet afternoons, and countless ordinary days that later became extraordinary memories.

Each stitch carries patience.

Each pattern carries time.

And every finished piece silently remembers where it was made.

A brief pause among the mustard fields during our journey from Jind.

Even today, whenever I look at this photograph, I don't just remember the mustard field—I remember the rhythm of moving wheels, family conversations, winter sunshine, and the peaceful satisfaction of creating something with my own hands.

Looking Back

Years have passed since these photographs were taken, but memories never grow old.

Admiring a handmade crochet lace against the fresh green countryside.

The fields may have changed.

A close look at a piece lovingly crocheted while travelling.

The road may look different today.

Yet the joy of creating with one's own hands remains exactly the same.

Some journeys are remembered not for the destination, but for the moments along the way

Perhaps that is the real beauty of handmade work—it preserves not only thread, but moments of life itself.

Sach men yah dili hai….

I had gone to Chandni Chowk a few days back in searh of some bridal Sari and for my friends's treat as she was going to Australia. For the first time, I saw Delhi-6..I have been to Chandni chowk area before but never saw anything.. but this time I saw everything..

Paranthe Vali gali.. we had all types of Paratha..gobhi,mirchi, aloo, paneer, and badaam paratha too!!

Roaming in the streets of Old Delhi has its own charm.. the chaos of the traffic, the overhead wires, the people sitting on the sideway taking a rupee to check your weight, those machines where you insert a coin and a card comes out showing your weight along with an actor whose matches with you, the drops of water falling on your head from the AC in the cramped building, the funny shop salesman calling everyone, the cattle enjoying a good time... Delhi-6 is Delhi-6!!

Looking for wedding Sari and Lehanga in Old Delhi can be more enjoyable than even owning one. The Chandni Chowk area has many katras (wholesale markets) lined with shops selling these dresses sourced from all over the country. Keep walking along the main thoroughfare and you will find these. Their collections keep changing with trends in the market – often they dictate the trends as customers have to buy what is available. Most of these shopkeepers have all the time in the world to help you choose – patience is a virtue they have honed in dealing with groups of women all day long. Unlike your daily outfits, saris are tough to try before you buy. No problem – the salesmen (not women, repeat – the men) drape these around them (over their terrycot shirts and trousers) and model for you
We wanted to get a photograph of a sari shop, so all of us went and stood next to the shop keeper who we wished would oblige us but it seemed he wasn't in a good mood..while we were standing, he used to scold his salesman ...it was sooooo funny and we all were waiting for a shoot and the shopkeeper didn’t notice us who were very eager for a photograph of that Sari shop with the owner everyone(customers) there started laughing but it was fun..I am putting some pictures here :)
