Yesterday was
"Earth Day" my daughter featured something from our house to
commemorate the day…

Could today be a
SEWING Day? Would be cool, ha? But it turns out, today is 132nd birth
anniversary of Gideon_Sundback - the inventor of the ZIPPER! So, it is still
related to garments and sewing! Although some of you may not realize how
valuable and important the invention of The Zipper is (of course it's
not a discovery of bulb!), I dare say it involves more imagination and
creativity. Indeed- Gideon came up with a solution to a problem. He did not
discover something which was already there, created by nature!
I think it is a pleasure to know the great minds and people
through Google’s search engine.
Today it created ripples with its latest
“DOODLE”, a giant zipper
running down the centre of its homepage featured by me above. To experience this Doodle, Visit Google
Homepage Below-
Yes!!!!!!!! the Zipper doodle is Google’s tribute to commemorate 132nd
birth day of Gideon_Sundback who perfected the zipper. Today, i.e. April 24 is Sunback’s
birthday. Gideon Sundback was a Swedish-American businessman. Born in 1880, to
a wealthy farmer of Smaland, Sweden. His big bet would be to radically improve
an already made Zipper
When the humans began to dress, a need arises to open and close
the clothing. The invention of different Velcro closures and clasps grew the
idea of front zipper.
He was trained as electrical engineering in Germany. Then he
migrated to the US in 1905.
After a stint at electric company in Pennsylvania, joined the
Universal Fastener Company in New jersey. A zipper design was developed in 1893
by Whitcomb Judson, but was designed for shoes. Even earlier, already in 1851
an American sewing machine designer, Elias Howe, received a patent for design
of “locking Slider.”
In short engineers have been working to develop a fastener
interlocking for over 20 years before Sundback perfected the zipper.
His innovation revolutionized the clothing industry- gone were
the days of cumbersome butons and hook-and –eye fasteners. Sundback’s smart design-a
dimple on the underside of each tooth and a nib on the top-ensured that no
single tooth has enough room to come apart, hence making the zip strong.
Yes!!!!! the best version of the zip was released and patented
on August 24, 1914 as‘Seperable
Fastner‘. In 1931
in Sweden the usage of metal zippers has been increased . The business expanded
and Gideon Sundback became rich. He died in 1954 he left a fortune of USD $ 13 million.
Happy Birth Day !Great Man!
