Festive cleaning

·
·        Its Holiday forValmiki Jayanti, it's the cool morning breeze with the hint of Chmeli  (a flower) in it. Then comes the articles in festival specials of newspapers and magazines and, finally, the in-built alarm goes off. Yes, it's time for  Diwali-cleaning. Diwali  just after 15 from now. The routine remains unvarying year after year.

Take out everything, dust and polish and put them back. Admittedly some things do get thrown out, but most find their way back. Some, in the faint hope of getting it in working condition soon. It was a chance remark by our domestic help which made me wonder about the wisdom in hanging on to old stuff.

Watching me surrounded and submerged in the clutter of decades, smy niece  picked up some baby clothes lovingly preserved by me  and wondered aloud, "What did you  plan to do with these? You could've given them away with the other clothes to  Krishan Pranami  AshramHisar

..." True, her self-interest was evident, but so was the soundness of her advice.
What indeed could be done with outdated clothes, bags and footwear? More than finding any stirrings of delight in my little frocks, I'd been adding to my own avoidable burden by routinely unpacking and repacking them all these years.
What was I hoping for? That my  daughter  will be delighted seeing her  mother's party frock, her own Mickey Mouse diapers, her walker ?

For a my little grand kids  perhaps, but the likelier thing would be that the poor girl  wouldn't know what to do with the mounds of memories she will inherit. It was with immense relief that I saw most of these things carted away to orphanages, which'd definitely find better use for them.
some relief after washing out the body dust! looking cool isn't it My d-in-law
The rest went to the    kabariwala. But, yes, the hoarding instinct can't be banished in a day so I'm hanging on to a few things which still live and breathe for me.

Among them a few brittle letters in a tin toffee box exchanges between my then newly-wed brothers; sage advice from nanu to a headstrong me and some sepia photographs. Clutter, did you say? Heirlooms, my friends, heirlooms. And also something for the next generation to do when they   clean for Diwali.

Flowering of plants

It isn’t  a big thing, our delicate tree is in gorgeous bloom at the moment ( not atm its started blooming since last month) I was waiting for its name 2-3 days back he came to us and I asked him the name of the blooming delicate tree that we have. On looking up the internet it was not the true name of the blooming tree .
What is in the name it’s still at the bloom too, and it’s something I think can only be truly appreciated close up! I suit it up from each branch and from all the sides. This tree plant is in a large pot and placed in the pot stand I bought 3 years back from Ludhiyana City when my daughter accompanied me for our projects annual unit meet (workshop). The branches of the same tree of our neighbor ( I am happy that I am inspirational for the greenery of my house)  bowing towards our side accompanying the branches of our tree. So the bloom is double enhances the beauty of two houses. Both these tree plants are in the pots and form part of the garden of our own property.

Also flowering at the  moment is the  MC  of our city planted in the park (in  front of our house, adding beauty of our front gate) I think some  2-3 years ago. Nice, and flushed with colour. How floured.

Jatropya a plant i strongly  like to have in my backyard tooo because of its propencity for bugs.
The stunning display of  flowering shurbs and plants left me breathless. This garden was at its peek even though the dry season was in full swing.

The pink and white buds  'Papri tree' I think is still my favorite though I love the   buds in my floating vase' I must admit.  Who can pick????

And lastly to round up my pink mood for the day is the hakik maalaa  which looks pink to me butmy niece said is red when it opens up.  I am throwing it in with my pinks cause it looks pink to me.

trip with crochet project ......

Last week I got to see my daughter at New Delhi to accompany her for her participation in a seminar”Samkalin Sahity me Stri chetana” in Lakshmibai College - University of Delhi for its golden jubilee celebrations   - obviously I have to proceed with some projects for the journey /to and fro for trip.

.   I had  been crocheting   granny squares and bootties for my grand daughter.  And I packed some balls of yarn + a crochet hook. My grand daughter  is just beautiful and already knows how to rock hand crocheted bootees. These are her  booties  by her grand ma, which is a   pattern that  designed with pen and paper in my hand. Drawing pattern is much more easy then the written one. As far as pattern writing is concern I am very lazy I first complete certain projects and the pattern writing lingers behind for months may be years

2  crocheting projects on the go. Look how lovingly they are just dumped on the stool
Winding this yarn is what we did while watching Navratri celebrations in community hall in front of our flat , from our flat's balcany in Delhi.  So we had colour in our room too, just a different mode!

Next on that red and white chequered table are the colourful granny  squares I created first for my best out of waste project in 1974. I swear I was not aware about the name granny square at that time I just make the muffler/scarf out of small-small balls of leftover yarn from my mother .At that time I was doing my Bsc in home science.that scarf was my lovely during several years to warm my years during cycling to my college.  Then it was used to put on mental in winter. Now it is here on the niche of my daughter’s room in Delhi.

I have made this one many times before, that is after the first project for my Bsc  and find it looks adorable in just about any combination of colours.  There are lots of great patterns in  several blog. I found another several beauty on Ravelry and crocheted  in just a few hours from a single ball of acrylic yarn. Can't wait to see this one modelled!  It is  the first blanket I am crocheting for my Rehana. The enormous colours are such fun. . I love that you can make several granny squares   with any doily based stitch pattern that you like. The possibilities are endless.

Finally finished my roll ripple pillow.  I had to extend the stuffing pouch inside.  As it

turned out a co-worker bought it from me.  I had made her a baby boy blanket earlier in

the year and it matched with it.

yarn,thread,wool

I cannot help myself taking home more yarn. Wish I could have a craft room. My stash is now full of yarn, including some I bought from local store, a lot actually, not to mention to crochet thread!

My sister   asked me once, "when do you expect you will use up all these yarns?". Honestly I have no idea... Just keep adding to my stash faster than I can use from it. I'm crazy about yarn, am I??? But I'm trying, so much, to attempt to keep it under control. Maybe one of my resolutions next year is "not to buy more yarn"!
