So long absentism here ........because of..............June 24, 2014 in pictures

 Several time I thought to plan and write my blog posts in advance by about some 10 days or so. That way whenever  the day meant for the post crawls around I am not that worried about posting. But like anything I do in life, sometimes I leave things to the last minute. Like my blog posts

This is the month of Sawan which is  known as the month in which the weather becomes pleasant all around the weather, but this year it’s so uncomfortable and I am overloaded with responsibilities and work  that’s why       I could not come up with a cohesive blog plot at this time. The reasons are ………..  .
Firstly, I have been in a horrible, grouchy mood for like, a week. I have no idea why but I am just soured on everything.

And because fate likes to sit, eat lots of churama  and laugh at my life, my son  has been in a ridiculously great mood. And for some reason, the worst was when I used to try  to take a photo of a dish I prepared to give Prenatal_nutrition  to my pregnant  D-in -law

  and he insisted on   sticking his hands on the meal plate . Instead of handling him like an  adult, I stopped of saying “FINE, I WON’T TAKE A PHOTO!”  OK!!!!!!!!

Secondly, because of my horrible, sour mood, I’ve been eating way too much kasaar . And also, singing EVERY song of  saawan     though I am creeping up to the age ofof grandma . I’ve also been doing these things while wearing a Mandassa*  to keep my head calm. I look fantastic wearing it .

Thirdly, when cleaning my house I found my lost earring. The ring presented by my D-in-law’s parents as a wedding gift to me.

Fourthly I have become obsessed with mollie-flowers flowers. I want to make a blanket of the future new baby to welcome him/her in our house. I tried several times but the real flowers did.nt come up with my hands. I blame my friend Rani because she is RIDICULOUSLY talented in crochet creations, every artistic crochet endeavor.   And she always has her cute crochet flowers everywhere in dresses, decorations, gift wraps, on photo frames in or her office and house and it’s so adorable I kind of want to barf at my own sad attempts at decorating. And since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I was all “Yeah, crochet flowers and with the fine sewing yarn of very thin weight! I’m all over that!” Except, mine is kind of cheap and garbage-y. And I feel like it takes me way too long to make it. Seriously, its only several yarn over on hook why does it take SO LONG!?

I  used to read Bronte  sister's since  last few months and can't resist to post this video about the Bronte family.

Pensionnat Heger
At the Pensionnat Heger they studied French, German, music, singing, writing, arithmetic, and drawing. Charlotte wrote of Emily that she “works like a horse” (letter to EN May 1842) and “is making rapid progress in French, German, Music and Drawing — Monsieur & Madame Heger [who ran the school] begin to recognize the valuable points of her character under her singularities.” (letter to EN July 1842).

Poem: No coward soul is mine

No coward soul is mine,
No trembler in the worlds storm-troubled sphere:
I see Heavens glories shine,
And faith shines equal, arming me from fear.

O God within my breast.
Almighty, ever-present Deity!
Life -- that in me has rest,
As I -- Undying Life -- have power in Thee!

Vain are the thousand creeds
That move mens hearts: unutterably vain;
Worthless as withered weeds,
Or idlest froth amid the boundless main,
To waken doubt in one
Holding so fast by Thine infinity;
So surely anchored on
The steadfast Rock of immortality.
With wide-embracing love
Thy Spirit animates eternal years,
Pervades and broods above,
Changes, sustains, dissolves, creates, and rears.
Though earth and man were gone,
And suns and universes ceased to be,
And Thou wert left alone,
Every existence would exist in Thee.
There is not room for Death,
Nor atom that his might could render void:
Thou -- Thou art Being and Breath,
And what Thou art may never be destroyed.

Belated father’s day, Summer solstice

 Remembering Dad on father’s day
My computer crashed and it took several days to make it  up that’s why i am posting my Father’s day post today..

My Dad

This photo reminds me the monsoon season at Chandigarh it was raining cats and dog and we were shifting our house from sector 31 to sector 35. The house of sector was air force accommodation and my father was transferred to Bombay so we had to vacate that house. The shifting in this Jeep took several trips from sector 31 to 35.my father came with his uniform and didn’t even had time to change his civil dress.

                                             My dad in 1955
 We all love this photo of my Dad taken on that very day of shifting it was taken in 1978 by the way at 31 sector near AIR residential area. Dad towed our little caravan to the  Sukhna lake
every year ( when we were at Chandigarh) and all of us-Dad, Mum, me and my two sisters and two brothers, my daughter and my little son, hoped for good weather.

My dad with    Dilip Kumar   the star legend of Indian cinema

At Delhi on cricket show in 81-82 India vs Pakistanclick   Here for details of the match
England 1981–82     cricketer Sandeep_Patil  is standing in the pic  left to my dad

And that very day of shifting didn’t’ came in the way of that tradition of our family that day. I remember lots of rain that day but the photographs prove there was lots of sunshine too.
I didn’t stop myself the poem by Ella_Wheeler_Wilcox
As it sums up my Dad very nicely-though    he didn't have his regular prayer (on the stool) after the death of my younger son. He was really a  super human being    He was often a comedian too and then we would exclaim "Oh Father!"
Father
He never made a fortune, or a noise
In the world where men are seeking after fame;
But he had a healthy brood of girls and boys
Who loved the very ground on which he trod.
They thought him just little short of God;
Oh you should have heard the way they said his name –
‘Father.’

There seemed to be a loving little prayer
In their voices, even when they called him ‘Dad.’
Though the man was never heard of anywhere,
As a hero, yet somehow understood
He was doing well his part and making good;
And you knew it, by the way his children had
Of saying ‘Father.’

He gave them neither eminence nor wealth,
But he gave them blood untainted with a vice,
And opulence of undiluted health.
He was honest, and unpurchable and kind;
He was clean in heart, and body, and in mind.
So he made them heirs to riches without price –
This father.

He never preached or scolded; and the rod –
Well, he used it as a turning pole in play.
But he showed the tender sympathy of God.
To his children in their troubles, and their joys.
He was always chum and comrade with his boys,
And his daughters – oh, you ought to hear them say
‘Father.’

Now I think of all achievements ‘tis the least
To perpetuate the species; it is done
By the insect and the serpent, and the beast.
But the man who keeps his body, and his thought,
Worth bestowing on an offspring love-begot,
Then the highest earthly glory he was won,
When in pride a grown-up daughter or a son
Says ‘That’s Father.’

Summer solstice
Summer Solstices occur on 20th or 21st June.
During summer the day of the solstice is the longest day of the year. The Solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice, once in summer and once in winter, each year when the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the North or South Pole. During Solstices the tilt of the axil of the Earth (with respect to the Sun) is the maximum at 23° 26'.
During June it is Summer Solstice in the Northern hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the Southern hemisphere. In other words during June Solstice it is summer time in the UK, the USA, Canada, Russia, India and China and it is the longest day of the year while it is winter time in Australia, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa and it is the shortest day of the year.

Similarly during December it is Winter Solstice in the Northern hemisphere and Summer Solstice in the Southern hemisphere. In other words during December Solstice it is winter time in the UK, the USA, Canada, Russia, India and China and it is the shortest day of the year while it is summer time in Australia, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa and it is the longest day of the year.

To avoid any confusion Solstices are preferably referred as June Solstice (Northern Solstice) and December Solstice (Southern Solstice). Summer Solstice is also known as Aestival Solstice.

In Hindu astrology Summer Solstice is known as Tropical Dakshinayana. However Sidereal Dakshinayana starts from
Karka Sankranti - from this day onwards Asurakal starts which is not good to start auspicious work.

Noastelgia,New Projects andCoklat Kiloan

At the end of year 2013 I was thinking to make list of my to-do list of crochet items but due to my mother’s dependency on me left no time to do so. I used to take care of her single handedly as my niece was away for her training otherwise she was equally on the move for doing her dadi’s day-to-day services. Then mom gone far away for her heavenly abode to accompany my dad her companion there on 9th of Jan 2014

Any how fast forward to the present topic………the fun of starting a new year is the new "to-Crochet" list that I gradually make my head. Last year there was not much time or energy to think creatively, again because of my son’s marriage and ailing mother, so this year , after January I want some more   projects done than in 2012 and 2013.

I will carefully select a few projects that I may approach the year. I want more organized and ballasted my hobbies, I do sometimes in the heat of the creative moment with a new project and then I sat on the end of the day with half as many projects.... So planning and balance is the password (s) for 2014 (since 4 months had gone).

One of the projects on my agenda is the cute little granny squares blanket in - Cute and easy-Crochet.

Prime Minister, Hinduism in Bali

photo

bali
Few words on Hinduism in Bali. Hinduism came to Indonesia from India in the 5th century and was then displaced by Islam from the 14th century. Bali became the only part of Indonesia to remain Hindu. You can still find some Hindu villages on other islands like Lombok, but Bali is the only island where Hinduism is the main religion. Balinese Hindu believe in good gods and bad demons, so they define their own role as finding the balance between those two by making offering and pleasing good spirits while asking bad spirits to go away. They also believe in Dharma (order in cosmos), good karma, reincarnation.  They are very close to nature, they respect it in their own way. So a life of a Balinese person is a lot about temples, ceremonies, offerings to gods. Balinese have their own language, their own calendar, their own religious festivals that don’t exist anywhere in the world.
