Well we survived through another end of the world prediction. Why on earth do these people frighten so many people with their predictions? Even when I was a little girl at school in 1965, someone would come up with these stupid dates! For the past fortnight, I have spent a lot of time in hospital with my mother. My mother was discharged from hospital although more tests and outpatient visits are due in future weeks. Life is beautiful...let us just enjoy it. If anything, 21st December 2012 should have made us realize that we should appreciate what we have and take more care of our planet. It was a very stressful time for me I must admit, these past few weeks, and I hope that I can slow down now and go back to my beloved craft work.

National Mathematics Year to commemorate the birth ofIndian Maha Manav...

Born and raised in Erode, Tamil Nadu, India,

He demonstrated a natural ability, and was given books on advanced trigonometry
In his short lifetime, Ramanujan independently compiled nearly 3900 results related to identities and equations.. to know more


The year 2012 is National Mathematics Year

Srinivasa Ramanujan was a self-trained mathematical genius and self-styled mystic from Madras, India who died in 1920 at the age of thirty-two. Contrary to the Western scientific tradition, he didn't reveal his methods, other than to say that mathematical observations came to him in dreams provided by a Hindu god, didn't provide proofs, and didn't show his work.


But, observations about number theory and abstract algebra that he made from his death bed in 1920, one of a veritable horde of conjections neither proved nor disproved that he advanced. Some of these have just been proved using modern mathematical methods developed in the last decade.


A televised documentary of his life and accomplishments is coming soon in honor of the 125th anniversary of his birth.....do watch...
Professor Godfrey Harold Hardy  with Srinivasan Ramanujan
When super genius Indian Mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan arrived at London, he was greeted by Professor Godfrey Harold Hardy. To break the ice, Hardy made a innocent remark that the number of the taxi , he came in is 1729-- looks like a boring number, to kick start a conversation-- instead of the usual English weather..


Ramanujan had a cursory glance at the taxi number plate himself and replied casually in a knee jerk manner "Oh No, actually it is a very interesting number. .It is the smallest natural number representable in two different ways as the sum of two cubes"


--and then this brilliant man told the equation on the spot

1729=1³+12³=9³+10³

डाभ /कुश / काँस (An evergreen wild weed which has deep roots going down to water level)


हमारे खेत में इतनी थी की जितनी काटो उतनी और उपज आती थी....अब उस टिब्बे को सीधा कर दिया था पर डाभ अब भी बहुतायत में है....

डाभ कै म्हारे खेत मैं

मूँग, मोठ लहरावे रे

काचर, सिरटे और मतीरे

धापली कै मन भावै रे

रे देखो टिब्बे तलै कुयकर झूमी बाजरी रे।

बरसे सामण अर भादों

मुल्की बालू रेत रे,

बणठण चाली तीज मनावण

टिब्बे भाजी लाल तीज रे

रे देखो पींग चढ़ावै बिंदणी रे।

होली आई धूम मचान्दी

गूँजें फाग धमाल रे,

भे – भे कीं मारे कोरड़े

देवर करे बेहाल रे,

रे देखो होली में नाच रही क्यूकर गोरी बेलहाज रे।

जोहड़ी में बोले तोते

बागां बोलै मोर रे,

पनघट चाली बिंदणी

Yarn Shopping

Yarn shopping

Last week my sis visited us here….i thought why not to for yarn shopping she is very helpful in getting you best of yarn….I think that crochet is taking over me... and I am happy! I went for yarn shopping in one of the markets of Hisar, in Patel Nagar,that evening. I purchased eight colors and I love them all! They all are pretty different, but I think I can combine them in an advantageous way.

There were so many kinds of yarn, I, honestly, couldn't stop buying! Big thanks to my sis for supporting me in my interests as we were choosing the colors together :) Now have a look at what I got.

The yarn was in skeins ...and i made the balls......

Real Me..........

Its……….MEEE

Global warming is talk of the show these days. Some channel broadcast about it like soon we will nowhere……………everything will extinguish in minutes……..when time comes be. what most concerns me about the idea of 'global' warming is how is it being used to manipulate masses of individuals politically based on fear of something that may possibly happen.



And we are told we should have no choice but to believe its preaching in its entirety.


There may be a grain of truth at its center.

However, being in the lifelong habit of looking and thinking for myself I can be called a skeptical atheist when it comes to the religion of global warming.

And yet other side of me…..

Being a Home Science student it was 40 years ago I learned a few very important house keeping (home management) principles; one of these was that:


Little bits of time consistently spent doing things add up to getting a lot done.

For example if I had even a few minutes to use before needing to leave the house I could use those to DO SOMETHING.. pick up and put away, clean a small area, wipe the dust of tables, chairs and sofa, take care of a load of laundry, empty the trash, water house plants or feed the goldfish.How to……..

Another Junk Project: Turning an Old Thermos into a Useful Box

I just LOVE making something cute and useful out of junk!

I hadn’t had a chance to make anything for several weeks, and I was simply chomping at the bit to create something new. Finally, things slowed down enough for me to enjoy some quiet time with my crafts.

Some time ago, I had bought organic wheat packed in a very large burlap sack. Instead of throwing the sack away, I carefully unravelled its jute yarn and saved it for my upcycling projects. I had already used some of this yarn to wrap old paint and varnish containers and a few discarded thermos bottles.

Then, one day, my mother noticed that I still had a ball of the unraveled jute yarn left.

She decided to do something with it herself.

She knitted a rectangular piece of fabric from the jute yarn. It was simple, rustic and beautifully textured. I immediately thought of an old thermos that could be given a completely new life with this handmade piece.

Turning the Old Thermos into a Box

First, I cut the old thermos to the required length so that it could be used as the body of a small storage box.

I spread glue over the surface of the thermos and carefully began wrapping it with the jute yarn. I worked slowly, adding glue as I went along so that the yarn would stay firmly in place.

For the main body, I also used the rectangular piece knitted by my mother. It fitted perfectly around the thermos and gave the box a warm, handmade character.

For finishing the upper edge, I used a beaded fringe left over from one of my earlier projects. I simply glued it around the rim. The fringe added a little decorative touch without taking away from the rustic look.

A Little Crochet for the Lid

For the lid, I crocheted a small circular piece and attached it to the top. I decorated its edge with the same leftover beaded fringe.

The sides of the lid were wrapped with the jute yarn and glued into place.

Interestingly, the decorative fringe was actually the selvedge of the original burlap sack. I loved the idea of using almost every little part of the discarded material instead of throwing it away.

From Junk to Something Useful

And here it is—the old thermos has been transformed into a completely different object!

I placed this newly made thermos box on top of another box that I had previously covered with the same jute yarn.

What was once an ordinary discarded thermos is now a rustic little storage box with a handmade, earthy charm.

This project reminded me once again that upcycling does not always require expensive materials or complicated techniques. Sometimes, an old container, a discarded burlap sack, some leftover yarn, a little crochet and a few scraps from previous projects are all we need.

And, of course, a little imagination!

Recycled Box

For me, the most special part of this project was that my mother contributed her own handmade work by knitting the jute yarn into fabric. So this little box carries not only recycled material, but also a small piece of our shared creativity.

I still love the thought of giving discarded things a second life.

After all, why throw something away when a little creativity can turn it into something useful and beautiful?
