xoxo

My publications

For me, the yearly cleaning of stored old books conjures up images of my olden time creativity and the hard work I put in learning US and British crocheting and knitting terms, preparing toffies, candies for my kids’ etc etc and got published them in magazines and books to make homemaker’s work easy ……… the pages of them yellowed with age, their musty smell transporting me to a distant land. Memories left behind like the hint of a perfume, between the pages of olden time fashions, and present day trends…. Ok, that's enough procrastinating. Just peek into my olden days publications with kids of my family...they were just the innocent victims of my crafting. Posting my olden days publications…………

Re-blogging a Favorite Memory!

For as long as I can remember, the library has been my sanctuary. From the nostalgic smell of old pages and the familiar thwack of the date stamp to stolen lunch-break visits and bringing my children along with their very first library cards—Nehru Library at CCS HAU has held a lifetime of precious moments.

Nehru Library, CCS HAU, Hisar: A peaceful haven of books and precious memories over the years.

A library card really is a key that opens doors to endless worlds!

To My Readers: Libraries have a quiet way of anchoring our lives across different stages, don't they? Whether it's the thrill of getting a new library card or finding a peaceful corner to read, those memories stay with us.

Do you have a favorite library memory or a library day ritual of your own? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

CLOUDY AND HUMID AND WET HISAR, HARYANA Weather at my place- furious wind out of what looks like clear blue sky and suddenly clouds boil up like a children's movie or a bad 80's video. Wind comes from all directions and the birds all shut up. It’s raining every now and then since 2-3 days back. Lately, I have heard many Haryanvi say that this is one of the longest rainy season they have ever experienced in this area since long. Today’s Morning I woke up at 5:30 in the morning, opened the lock of the door, looked outside, there was no one in the park in front of my house. The park was full of water. I didn’t’ dare to go for my morning walk I roasted some garam masala ingredients it filled the house with pleasant aroma. And set them aside to cool…I will grind them into a powder at night after dinner.. Then I went towards Ekta Park, where it looked like a pond. Came back and sat on the PC. Then got up, drank some cold water, prepared my tea. It looks cloudy for much of the district for several days to come. But when I look now, it's actually not that bad. I came out see both blue sky and sun through papri tree ! Then just enjoy it while it's still like that… I took some photos with my phone's camera, my baby Son (he is still a baby to his age)and my daughter too is still like a tyranny girl (When she gets very angry, she starts breaking expensive antiques of my ancestors that were in my father’s possession and gifted to me, in the house ) enjoying their dreamland . I will upload them in the post later on. Have a nice day with tea in front of PC:-) Happy writing!

colour Red for Boys

There was a time when I used to stitch my own dresses. I also sewed dresses for my  children myself. besides, I used to sew dress of children's of my sisters and brothers with great interest. I used to send my sewed, crocheted and knitted dresses for different magazines and newspapers for publication.they all got published when they were kids.

colour Red for Boys

early years of my son's dresses were mostly red shirts in different colours

history says..... ' in the 18th-19th c., the color red was much more associated with English boys than blue. It was considered a properly masculine color, and one with strong military overtones as well as the color for hunting. As soon as a boy was breeched – dressed in male adult-style clothing instead of the unisex white gowns of babies – bright red usually made an appearance in his wardrobe. Later in the 19th c., when color first was used in infant clothing, pink, as the lesser version of red, was the color for boys, while girls were dressed in pale blue. (For more about gender-dressing by color, see this article from Smithsonian.)

Marriage Ceremony of my son

Our children can take strange tacks and end up in places we never would have predicted.  A friend’s daughter grew up to be a fashion designer in Eurat, Gujrat.  “It was not a career path I ever envisioned for her,” the father said.  Another friend had a son who partied and slacked his way through school but went on to earn $30 million in the tech business.  The mother shook her head.  “I never would have predicted that.
So it was for me.  I never imagined my son would marry a girl of another state, start two businesses and marry a UP  woman.  I’ve searched my memory for clues in his childhood that might have predicted this, but I’ve come up empty.  I mean, he liked Haryanvi food, like churmaa, bajra roti, dahi ,chutney etc.etc.

Here is the bride and the groom.i am so proud of my son!

On  reaching home, my son  brought my daughter-in-law, leading her by a long Red  ribbon, down to the street and into our hous.

Simple life.......

In my little North Indian corner of Haryana. Which has been a part of the Kuru region in North India .I am finding and creating beauty in the everyday and ordinary things to simplify my life. I am using what I have to create with my children and to invest in others. We are just an ordinary family praying desperately to make an extra-ordinary difference in this world we live in.
Door deco colloquially known as bandanwar in Haryanvi

My version of floating vase;
Don't be fooled,  this is actually not the floating vase, it was a plant vase in his past life, presently these flowers are  actually floating in water!

One thing I know for sure is what might appear to be “the simple life” for one person doesn’t necessarily equate to simple for another. Right now in my life simple means slowing down, staying put and nurturing what I already have rather than seeking simplicity somewhere else, taking off on a new adventure or adding new things to my already overflowing plate. Simplicity is about being in the moment and embracing life right where I am.

I made this vase somewhat smooth with plaster of paris+white glue+water and then trimmed it with glass stones.....

Notice another pot with floating jasmine flowers from my balcony garden!
I love how cozy all my vases  look, and I especially like the way my painted milk bottles ones complement my Sitar nativity. It is addicting to paint  these! I painted them in somany colours .no!nO! its' not me !     I am so grateful for the creative ladies for sharing their fab ideas. Go visit all of them!

Have you locked-up your documents. DONT LOSS THE KEY!!!!!!!Go have a hook and hang it like above!!!

Close-up! Just smell the jasmine!!!!

My 25-and-a-half year old daughter, on the evening of her first day of actual behind-the-wheel driving was perfectly calm. It was me, the passenger, who was a wreck. I had zero control of the car, and my facial hair for that day was older than her driving privileges. This seemed crazy!

For weeks, I've been getting on my son to wash his car. His car is 3 years old (still pretty much new) and it was filthy, both inside and out.

It makes me laugh to see how easily a mere strange facial expressions of my daughter   can make my niece    laugh like this.

I was very fortunate to grow up twigs to make these woolen branches . Every time I go in the balcony, I enjoy looking at all of the sticks and the plarn mat. I've collected lots of poly bags  from grocery stores and on vacations I made braids and coiled the braid to make these mats . aren't they beautiful!

I’ve discovered a comfortable way of life that might be different than I dreamed of but it works for me, for now.  I realize now I can handle living close enough to shops that I can have some “me time” at a coffee house or window shopping, but far enough that I don’t get in a regular habit of shopping to fill a void in my life that should have been filled with simpler pleasures. Living near enough (but not too close!) to shopping or other “spending” temptations helps simplify the budget too! It’s good, even if it isn’t what I had originally imagined as a perfect life or location for me.
