Lamp shade makeover

This post of mine is  about a little makeover I recently did on a lamp that I hated! Unfortunately I have no before picture to show you. I was having issues with my phone camera and couldn't take one. But yay for me, I got it repaired the other day and am pleased to be sharing the after pictures. Those are the best ones to share anyway. Right? I'll give you a visual in a picture I took when it was lying in my

storeroom here is a before pic when it was out of order.!The lamp shade was navy. It was out of order d a bit you could see its position in the pic. My description makes it sound better looking than it actually was. Chalo see the after. It's definitely a statement piece in the living room now!

 Can not deny that for a while time I had the idea of making one .. last March while teaching waste material items to  girls at our NGO center, i got the idea to make the lamp spade for our lamp and teach the girls how of it.here are my results .. What do you think?

I started with old magazine pages to make chana jor gram paper cone like containers which I love,girls at the center helped make me them. Then fold them at the top to make stirdy.and finished 20 of them .yet I’m not overly please with the rough pages of magazine .i’d like her to be really glossy with glossy magazine! And after she was all finished I noticed some rough cones. I guess I should have checked the cones made by girls.Oh well, live and learn.not everything has to be perfect,right?

Haryanvi folky doll

Creative with fabric leftovers….

I got sewn a little today. Because what do you do with the 100 small fabric remnants that are always stored, but never used .. ?? !! At least I'm really bad at getting them out of the world .. But today I got to use some of my leftovers. Hooray !!!

My first project today was - Haryanvei doll

then i created another one which stands by her

अलमारी में पड़े कपड़ों के छोटे टुकड़ों को दिया नया जीवन। साथ में बैठा नन्हा घोड़ा और पारंपरिक दामण में मुस्कुराती हरियाणवी लोक गुड़िया।

she is wearing daaman (A very heavy, bulky and beautiful skirt worn by womenfolk of Haryana in villages)

it has made a bun of hair called chunda(haryanvi hairstyle)  just above her forehead

I present one of my creations patchwork is a doll that I made using a small left over pieces  of cloths from my sewing projects. I think it has been very sweet.

blocking of crochet lace work,Pics of my grand daughter

 

Last weakened, in between coughs, sniffles and whines, I finished several small crochet articles I supposed to complete. All these were lying in my basket of UFo’s. I looked back through my nin-searchable hand-written journal and couldn’t find the exact date that I started, but I only write three sentences a day, so perhaps if it was the fourth most significant thing that happened that day. Some time ago I bought aa bunch of yarn at the pushpa shop, and immediately crocheted some small thingy  crochet.

I crocheted a granny square handkerchief for my daughter,a pinapple motif lavender pouch,one another kerchief in grey for her a block to make her vest in lace I need several such blocks to complete her vest

Click the pic to have a close-up view of the stitch pattern of all the items. Since I would go for months without working on the vest blocks, the most challenging part was always just remembering where I’d left off. Here I blocked only one block of the vest rest are waiting to be blocked.  

In the top photo, at  the left you can see the pineapple block in pink colour,crochet lace fabric needs to be blocked, or dampened and stretched, in order to actually make lace .this involves briefly soaking the fabric in lukewarm water, spilling the entire amount of water in the floor, draping the fabric over a towel, rolling up the towel, squeezing it as much as possible, and then pinning it to a foam blocking board in the dimensions specified by the pattern.

The knitted sweaters also need to be blocked. I remember when I was in sixth slandered I knitted a sweater for Home-science project and that sweater was blocked over a towel or you can say layed to drape and to  be dried on the towel.

बहुत मन करता  है ग्रैंड डॉटर के हर पल को कैमरे में कैद कर लिया जाए कंप्यूटर पर बैठे मेरे सामने कुछ फोटोस आ गई जो २०१६ की हैं जब वह तीन साल की थी। ये फोटो मेरे फोन के कैमरे से हमारे घर के  सामने वाले पार्क से ली गई हैं। जब मैं उसे कहीं  घुमाने ले जाती हूँ तो अपना फोन जरूर साथ रखती हूँ ताकि उसकी एक्टिविटी को कैमरे में कैद कर सकूं. 

I suppose  that my  Grand Daughter's every moment should be captured in the camera. Sitting at the computer, I came across some photos which are from 2016 when she was three years old. These photos were taken with my phone's camera from the park opposite our house. When I take her for a walk, I definitely keep my phone with me so that I can capture her activity in the camera.

पहले जब मैं छोटी थी यानी २४-२५ साल की तब कितनी मेहनत कर लिया करती थी किसी एक चीज को बनाने में 'इस वाल हेंगिग को बनाने के लिए छोटे रिंग्स को लाल और हरे धागे से बटनहोल स्टीच से ढका बड़े रिंग पर जाली का कपड़ा चढ़ाया और मुश्किल स्टिचेज की क्रोशिये की तितली बनाई और उसे बड़े फ्रेम के बीचों बिच लगाया. तब बनी यह सुंदर वाल हैंगिंग। 

Earlier, when I was young i.e. 24-25 years old, then I used to work so hard to make anything creative To make this wall hanging', small rings are covered with red and green thread with buttonhole stitch, mesh cloth on the big ring Made a crochet butterfly with complicated stitches using crochet thread and placed it in the center of the large frame on net. Then this beautiful wall hanging was made.all the items except thread are recycled material.

There was a time i just aware with the basic stitch of crochet and the picot only i had a beautiful possession of laces coiled round and round one was at least 4 inches in width and at least one meter in length another two: each one inch in width and at least 2 meter in length they one was trimmed with red yarn in slip stitch and another was trimmed with blue yarn. I usually tried ...tried and tried......to crochet those laces...but always in wain ...no one was there around to teach me.....nor there was any book for instructions.

Every time when i used to crochet i unwind those lace pieces one ...by one sometimes one stitch ...then two...three....i still remember those failure results that’s why i respect everybody’s skill. Without any teacher you cant learn anything.

I was 15 or 16 years of age not a kid quite grown up but what to do.....later ...after 1or 2 years i got married and got admission in prep class (11^th class) that was golden period for me i explored library for the crochet instructions.....not the library of our college , i visited each and every library for books. I taught myself how to crochet diff stitches.. how to write patterns...

And then that was the time

It was in 1985 I sent off my very first crochet pattern submission really felt like such a plunge. It was also my first submission in hard copy. I was so proud of myself to have my application put together and mailed on time. I consider every submission to be a great personal triumph against the demons of self doubt and procrastination.

At that time doesn’t matter at that point if my design gets accepted or not, I had won in the battle against myself.

Without further ado....and back to the original work ...

So ...without further procrastinating, i finally posting it!!!

You can probably tell what i had been procrastinating----posting the stuff in the blog!!!

As for as this patch work.........thing is concern i created posts with writeup i will surely post them ....they all are the pre-steps of this bigger project...let see

Ah, yes. This is still Work in Progress. If you make anything at all, chances are good that you too, have your own WIP collection. If you’re anything like me or most other creative folks I know you have an almost menacing WIP Mountain bursting from random drawers, closets, nooks and crannies like forlorn orphans with little hope of ever being finished. Why is it that we are SO excited to start something new and rarely as driven to finish it?

I really, really love that all of the fabrics are left over from my own project . Not only is it incredibly satisfying to turn this:

but there’s a very real sense of connection to all of the women throughout time who have taken the materials they hand on hand to make something functional and beautiful for their family. Before our world became disposable, that is.

For those of you who see this and think I’m something of a genius, I must disclose that many, many people have made, are making, and will in the future be making rugs textile-pieces with some of their own methods. I developed my version of pattern myself. And the efforts put in by my niece without her help it was not possible to make this......

Still something to tell.....

Several months ago i bought new fabric pieces to cut fab-squares (these one are only from left over pieces) and i sit to cut the pieces then i searched batting material several days ..past than i bought batting material...cut some pieces and sandwich to make squares i basted 2-3 pieces ...tried to work blanket stitches around....and got tired...bored....ohhhhhhhhh its too difficult a task......then i stood up ...open the cupboard gathered all the pieces and then and their decided to assemble them ....whatever...size of cloth....will develop out of those pieces......then ....it was done .......i felt very charmed on its looks.when my daughter came home for diwali, she also liked it very much.....its edgings are still to be done ..i usually sit for one hour or two while listening worship.....script in the evening....i keep it with ball of yarn and crochet hook.But my daughter daily used to lay it on the crb wit

 h the ball and hook under the mattress.
