spiritual musings, flower Arrangement

Bg 4.7:Whenever there is a decline in righteousness and an increase in unrighteousness, O Arjun, at that time I manifest myself on earth.

This shloka of Geeta was in our Sanskrit book in 6th class. Since then I am equpped with this shloka in my memory and chant it time and again……

Geeta is treasurer of wisdom: the holy books of all religions serve as our path finders. The quran of Islam, the bible of Christianity, the Geeta of Hinduism, Guru Granth Sahib of Sikhism, the Tipitaka of Buddhism, and the Agamas of Jainism are all examples of scriptures that dig deep into the perennial questions that have been plaguing mankind since time immemorial.
Not only the scriptures, but also the many non religious texts such as the ancient epics of Greece, the writings of Confucius and the celebrated tragedies of Shakespeare, all throw light on the unending questions that mankind has been struggling with.

My floating flower arrangement (photo essay from September 23.2012)

There are several flowers that lend themselves particularly well to floating on water rather than bunched on their stems in a vase. These flowers tend to hang downward from the stem, so that  their cheery faces are obscured.  The yellow oliender  are in bloom now, they have nodding blossoms.

And the blooms attach to the stem so tightly and at an angle that makes them challenging to arrange in traditional fashion. They are funnel type and we cannot arrange/float them with their faves upward ,they tend to float sideway , there patels didn’t open fully and they are very long .

When floating on their sides , the true beauty of oliender flower is revealed – the luminous sheen of the petals, the intensity of colour. I put a few jatropa blooms between them  they are looking very beautiful floating with their tiny faces upward

Yellow oliender are common landscape plant in most part of the country and grow with ease and little care.due to this we may take them for granted . Step out and pick a few flowers and float them in a bowl on your kitchen island---I guarantee you’ll find a new appreciation for olienders.
